The challenge
When a dispute turns on what a policy said at a particular point in time, counsel needs to know exactly which version of the handbook was in force and what changed between editions. Reconstructing that history across years of revisions can be slow and exacting.
The solution
Revisions give counsel the full version history of the handbook, and built-in comparison shows the exact edits between any two editions side by side. Counsel establishes which policy applied when, with confidence in the record.

Navigate to the relevant matter workspace in the iManage Next Gen Platform and open the employee handbook.
The platform keeps every version of the document in one place, so there is no need to search email threads or shared drives.
Select Versions from the document or toolbox menu.
The full version history loads, showing every saved edition of the handbook with its date, time, and the name of the person who saved it.
Scan the Version list and select the two versions that bracket the date in question.
This confirms exactly which edition of the handbook was in force at the time of the dispute.
With both Versions selected, launch the built-in document Comparison.
The iManage Next Gen Platform generates a redline view that highlights every addition, deletion, and modification between the two editions as well as a change summary. Counsel can see exactly what the policy said before and after the change, with no ambiguity about what was in force and when.
The Change Summary ranks and classifies the type of changes that have been made. To save the comparison output back to the matter workspace, click export.
The revision history and comparison record are timestamped and stored in the platform, giving counsel a defensible, auditable record without any additional reconstruction work.
